21-22 June 2018
Talk to and learn from a global community of biologists
Biotweeps is a science communication project which features a different biologist every week. The first Biotweeps Twitter Conference, #BTCon17, brought together 60 presenters from 12 countries, from across the biological sciences. The conference was extremely successful, engaging 1,200 people and with an estimated global audience of 22 million people (see our Nature Communications article, here).
The conference returns this year as BTCon18, split over two days between the 21-22 of June, 2018. It will feature invited presenters as well as plenty of presentations selected from submitted abstracts. Presenters will be using the hashtag #BTCon18, which can also be used to track participants, throughout. The main @Biotweeps Twitter account will also be re-tweeting presentations.
Present your work at #BTcon18
The core of any conference is the presentations and #BTCon18 will be no exception. Submit your work for consideration and present your work to a global audience! Please read the Information for Presenters before submitting your abstract. The deadline for submissions was the 1st of May 2018 (NB: submissions are no longer being accepted).
Video presentations at #BTCon18
This year we are excited to bring a new presentation format to the Biotweeps conference: video presentations. During each session of the conference, there will be a single 20 minute broadcast of your science via the Periscope app (shared through Twitter) or pre-recorded via YouTube. However this will not be a return to the classic lecturing style of other conferences. Taking advantage of the ability to broadcast directly from any location, we are calling for presentations which would not be feasible on a traditional stage. Demonstrate your science in the lab, show us an interesting specimen collection, or even take us to your field site if it has a stable enough internet connection!
The number of video presentations is strictly limited. As with tweet-based presentations, Please read the Information for Presenters. The deadline for submissions is the 1st of May 2018.

ABOUT #BTCON18
#BTCon18 is a global event bringing together researchers from across the biological sciences to share and discuss their research with an audience many times larger and more diverse than that found at traditional scientific conferences.
#BTCon18 takes place on the 21-22 of June 2018. The programme consists of presentations from invited experts, as well as those from people who successfully submitted abstracts. Presentations will be scheduled in one of three time-zone regions each day:
-
Session 1: 1700 - 2100 BIOT (British Indian Ocean Time; GMT +6; CST +12)
-
Session 2: 1700 - 2100 GMT (Greenwich Meridian Time; BIOT -6; CST +6)
-
Session 3: 1700 - 2100 CST (Central Standard Time; GMT -6; BIOT -12)
The conference has nine broad themes (see below)- one per session, per day. All sessions will be collected as Twitter Moments so that you even if you're unable to follow the conference live, you can catch up later.
You can follow the conference by following the hashtag #BTCon18 and we encourage you to take part by asking questions (don't forget to use the hashtag!). We look forward to talking to you.
